Reducing our environmental footprint
Fighting global warming
We are fully committed to fighting global warming and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and are targeting a drastic reduction in our Bilan Carbone® footprint upstream and downstream of our activities.
- Working with farmers to reduce our net carbon footprint per litre of milk produced by 20% by 2025, compared to 2016 levels.
- Establishing a long-term upstream carbon strategy for the period 2030 - 2050 to achieve one of the best carbon footprints per litre produced among European dairy producers.
- Reducing our scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels.
- Developing a carbon trajectory for scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for the period leading up to 2050, with recognition by an internationally-recognised external authority.
Respect for life in our operations
Alongside our farmers and stakeholders, we are implementing more actions to improve animal welfare, preserve biodiversity and prevent pollution.
- Encouraging farmers to use the multi-sector animal welfare diagnostic system, with the aim of having 100% of farms assessed by the end of 2024.
- Working with farmers to draw up an improvement plan for at least two major issues each year (awareness campaigns, targeted studies etc.).
- Working with stakeholders to draw up a biodiversity policy.
- Eliminating accidental pollution, which is harmful to the aquatic environment.
Limiting the use of resources and developing the circular economy
Tangible commitments include fighting deforestation, managing resources - water in particular, reducing packaging, implementing eco-design, waste management anti-food-waste.
- Membership of Duralim to help improve the sustainability of livestock feed and achieve zero imported deforestation by 2025.
- Establishing a policy to reduce our impact on the water cycle.
- Attaining 100% recyclable and/or reusable packaging by 2025.
- Gaining FSC certification for all production sites that use cardboard packaging, starting with Créhen and Ploudaniel and bringing in all sites by the end of 2025.
- Training our teams to analyse the life cycle and eco-design of products, to include all Paysan Breton products by 2025.
- Instituting an improvement plan for industrial waste involving mapping and flow diagnosis.
- Establishing and implementing an anti-waste progress plan for mass-consumption products and other ranges.
