Reducing food waste
Laïta has been fighting food waste for several years. Our strategy is about extending the life of certain products, preventing waste at source, and making best use of downgraded products and production volume variances via a specially created unit. These solutions are geared towards ending the destruction of consumable products, and succeeded in reducing the loss rate to less than 1% in 2023.
Building sustainability partnerships to counteract food waste
In addition to these actions, Laïta has been working with anti-food-waste brand NOUS Anti-Gaspi since 2018 in conjunction with its mass-market retail clients. This dedicated production and distribution model means we are able to reduce food waste by recycling certain products that appear under retailer own brands. Numerous talks are underway in connection with the partnership, and together we are seeking new avenues of value creation.
A day of discussions
Last June a number of forums for discussion and co-construction involving teams from Laïta and NOUS Anti-Gaspi were held on various topics - better design, better manufacturing and better marketing to reduce waste. It was a day of useful discussion that will feed into Laïta’s road map over the coming months. We interviewed Charles Lottmann, Co-founder and Director of NOUS Anti-Gaspi, at the event. He looks back on the collaboration and on our joint actions and avenues for reflection to develop a sustainable road map.
